PERLINDUNGAN PEREMPUAN DAN ANAK “TRADISI KAWIN TANGKAP DI SUMBA NTT
Abstract
Indonesia has a variety of traditions, customs and cultures that continue to be preserved to this day. Of the many traditions, customs and culture that it has, there are traditions that make an uproar for many parties. This tradition is known as piti rambang's proposal or forced take in the capture marriage tradition from Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Capture marriages are translated by local residents as the initial stage of traditional marriages. This practice, which has been known in the interior of NTT for a long time, began with pretending to kidnap the groom-to-be who had been made-up to the groom's house. The new proposal officially begins after the prospective bride agrees to marry, followed by the delivery of belis (dowry). The video that went viral showing the practice of intermarrying and capture on December 6 and June 16 sparked a reaction from the wider community. Many were angry when they found out about the practice of interbreeding, because so far there are still many who respond normally about capture marriages. There are many perceptions that develop in the wider community regarding traditions which are certainly very demeaning to women and traumatizing because they contain elements of sexual violence against women. Until now, many things have been done to eliminate the elements of violence and coercion against women without leaving the traditional characteristics of Sumba.
